Discipline of Disaster Management deals with avoiding risks. It involves preparing for disaster before it occurs, disaster response e.g. emergency evacuation, quarantine, etc. and supporting and rebuilding society after natural or human made disasters occur. In general, it is continuous process by which all individuals, groups and communities manage hazards in an effort to avoid the impact of disasters resulting from the hazards. Actions taken depend in part on perceptions of risk of those exposed. Effective Disaster Management relies on thorough integration of emergency plans at all levels of Government and non-government involvement. However, Disaster Management actually starts at the lowest level and then increases to the next higher organization level after the current levels’ resources have been exhausted.
The main function of Disaster Management Section is to prepare a District Disaster Management Plan with the aim—-To prevent or reduce losses that occurs due to hazards,disasters and emergencies·— Preparedness, prevention and mitigation of disasters·— Addressing disaster management training and awareness creation.
